AN SPECIAL EDITION
As we had announced in our last issue, this edition is completely focused on the building and technologic upgrading of the Colón Theater, and the celebrations in honor of the Argentinean Bicentenary. From May 5th to 7th, the Government of Buenos Aires organized the so-called “Seminars on Value Enhancement and Technology Updating in the Colón Theater” which took place in the San Martín Theater.

HISTORY OF THE COLÓN THEATER’S BUILDING
|
The Colón Theater in Buenos Aires is one of the biggest and best opera theaters in the world, mainly due to its exceptional acoustic quality, but also for its remarkable architectural value, its functionality for the representation and execution of theatrical and musical artistic plays, its Room’s hierarchy, hospitality and comfort, plus the beauty of its design, especially in some special areas like the Main Room, different halls and the Foyer.

ACOUSTIC QUALITY PRESERVATION (Colón Theater)
|
The main room of the theater, in a horseshoe shape, fulfills all the general characteristics of the classic Italian theater with the same shape. It has a total capacity of 2,478 seats to which some 500 standing people can be added.

STAGE TECHNOLOGY REFURBISHMENT (Colón Theater)
|
STAGE UPDATE
The items they worked on here were:
a) Incorporation of two new platform hoists. Main: 11.90 m x 2.30 m in the stage axis (replacing the previous 7.40 m x 2.10 m platform). Secondary: 5.30 m x 2.90 m in the stage tunnel axis on the third underground, including special lids at stage level. The platforms are high technology devices containing Austrian mechanisms.

STAGE, LIGHTING AND MULTIMEDIA RENOVATION (Colón Theater)

THE STAGE TECHNOLOGY
AUTOTROL (as main contractor) together with HOFFEND and SBS BÜHNENTECHNIK GMBH (nominated subcontractors) were in charge of the stage machinery section, renovating the revolving round stage platform, the stage elevations, the lighting and the control.

BICENTENARY CELEBRATIONS IN BUENOS AIRES
|
A huge event in commemoration of the Bicentenary of the first national government's formation was carried out from May 21st to 25th with different stages presenting the main local artists and also many international Latin musicians and singers, plus the so-called Walk of the Bicentenary showing the culture of the different counties that make up the national Argentinean territory, among other attractions… all of this was set on the main streets in the City of Buenos Aires, centering the action on the 9 de Julio Avenue.
